MESA, AZ — A procession and subsequent services honoring fallen Apache Junction Police Officer Gabriel Facio took place in the East Valley Monday morning.

Officer Facio was shot by a suspect on June 2; he died from his injuries on June 7.

Apache Junction Police Chief Michael Pooley described Officer Facio as "a beloved father, husband, son, brother, friend and police officer who showed his passion for people through his service to others."

Chief Pooley continued, saying, "Officer Facio's impact on this department and community will never be forgotten. His service, spirit, and sacrifice will remain part of our story forever."

A funeral procession started at the Apache Junction Police Department, traveling west along Superstition Boulevard until it reached Mountain View Funeral Home. Multiple law enforcement agencies joined the procession at the funeral home toward Central Christian Church.

Last week, community members, law enforcement, and businesses all came together to support multiple fundraisers for the family of Officer Facio.

The man suspected of shooting and killing Officer Facio, Roger Nunez, was booked into jail Friday after being released from the hospital, Mesa police said Monday.
